If Angelina Jolie Wasn’t Going To Be Cleopatra, Who Would You Choose To Be the Queen of the Nile?

As you know, Angelina Jolie is slated to play the ill fated Queen of the Nile, Cleopatra,

lover to both Julius Caesar and Marc Antony, and an iconic figure both in history and in cinema. However, if Angelina Jolie wasn’t going to be Cleopatra, which of the following actresses would you choose to play the legendary role?

Lindsay Lohan Is Going To Jail! Do Not Pass GO!

Yes, it’s sad, but true. Lindsay Lohan is going to jail. I feel bad for her, honestly, as a mom, I’d hoped she would have picked up her socks and cleaned up her act. Nobody wants to rejoice (usually) when it’s announced that somebody is trading in the stolen fur coats for not so lovely jailbird orange. I sure don’t. It’s very unfortunate and didn’t have to happen — or maybe it did. Maybe this was the only way she would wake up and realize she was throwing her young and “could be talented again” life away. Most likely LiLo won’t end up serving the full 90 days in the slammer. If she’s lucky, maybe she’ll get half that and some sort of community service. Who knows? However, based on the stunned reaction and futile ramblings of both Linds and her lawyer after the judges verdict, I can only deduce that no one expected that Miss Lohan would end up behind bars. Stay strong Lindsay. It’ll be tough while you’re serving your sentence, but in the end, hopefully it’s the wake up call you so desperately need.

Kristen In Wanted 2 Instead of Angelina? Ageism Part 1

Angelina Jolie Too Old?

Angelina Jolie Too Old?

This is by no means breaking news, but rumor has it that Kristen Stewart is wanted for Wanted 2 instead of Angelina Jolie. (I know they say AJ declined, but admit it! When you heard the news, you thought, “What? AJ’s too old? Well, that’s what I thought, so I’m running with it…) I wonder if AJ is beginning to feel the awful effects of the AGE-ISM affliction that seems to have society by the ***** mhmm? (Cough, cough!) What is this notion that says as a woman, once you are past a certain age (over 30! *GASP!* 28 in some regions we won’t mention) AND have children, the gods help you, but you are OLD? Bring on the denture cream, what? Such foolishness. And so, so sad. I mean, wasn’t it just last year that AJ was being proclaimed as one of the most beautiful women in the world? Oi-yi-yi! The gods help us mere mortal women then. SHEESH! I say!

Kristen Stewart Wanted!

Kristen Stewart Wanted!

Anyhoo, it’s reminding me that the days of Brad/Tom/Angelina/Halle as Hollywood icons is rapidly coming to a CLOSE. Alas, the light of these stars is fast waning, sure to fade into distant memory like those of the ancients, Cary Grant and Errol Flynn. I remember listening to the elders (namely the generation that came before me, like parents) speaking with awe and nostalgia of the glory of days gone by. I remember thinking, “Cared about who? In like Flynn? Boring!”. I would silently proclaim (so as not to appear rude) I will never be old and get nostalgic. Well, little did I know that the shriveled hand of age touches us all; even those who shine the brightest cannot escape its bony grasp.

Now it seems, I am old and the stars of my esteemed era are now being thought of as “the stars of old.” (Except Johnny Depp. I don’t think he has an expiration date.)

But, really. Are women too old once they reach 30? Are women over 30 who have children just way too old with too much pitney* to be considered tempting screen sirens? Should said women only be offered or pursue roles that portray them as wise matrons or lonely spinsters? I think ageism sucks severely. What do you think?

*too much pitney = a whole boatload of trouble and baggage

Thor Movie!

Thor

Thor

Holy Marvel Comics Batman! The Marvel Universe is blowing up on screen! Enter the Thor movie! It will be directed by Kenneth Branagh (remember him from Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing?) This should be interesting. I, however, am totally down with this kind of movie fare, so you know I’ll be watching it! Even the Norse gods want a piece of Hollywood!

~P.S~ Batman is not in the Marvel Universe. He is in the DC Universe. I bet you guys didn’t know I knew that! :D

~P.P.S.~ I think Alexander Skarsgard would have rocked in this role. :(

Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth is set to play the title role. I’ll give him a chance. Look how much we love Andy Whitfield as Spartacus. Andy Whitfield is Spartacus. Maybe Chris Hemsworth will go down in Pop Culture history as the Thor. Who knows? What do you think about casting fresh faces in big lead roles? (Ok, maybe Chris Hemsworth is familiar. He did play James T. Kirk’s dad in last year’s Star Trek afterall. And do you notice all these severely fresh actors from Australia all of a sudden? I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely diggin’ it! Love that accent!)
